How do you think a bride can make her event special and memorable?

I always advise my clients to step back and think about the kind of celebration that feels right to them. There is no rule that says you must have the reception at a hotel or serve wedding cake. I often find myself suggesting a different approach. The wonderful wedding receptions that people remember are the ones where the hosts treated it like the most fabulous party that they were ever going to throw in their entire lives with the people who are most important to them.

How do you personally try to inject uniqueness into your wedding events?

I always create the vision of a wedding event based on the personality and taste of the bride and groom. This is an opportunity for a couple to create a celebration that is entirely theirs. I try to express their style, not just my own.

What is one challenge every bride can expect during the planning process and what is a good way to overcome this challenge?

Every bride wants her wedding to be absolutely perfect, but prioritizing and finalizing the details of your special day can be a major source of anxiety. Here’s a little secret: You don’t need to spend a fortune to imbue your special day with that loving spirit that makes a wedding truly unforgettable. I believe the biggest challenge for a bride is to filter through what she values and what she does not. Once she does this, the event takes on a life of its own. Ultimately, it’s the small details that will be remembered for years to come.

What is your favorite type of venue for a wedding?

A spot that has personal meaning for the couple— or that gives you the freedom to create something very personal.

Where does your inspiration come from for your wedding events?

My inspiration comes at unexpected times and in unexpected places. I draw inspiration from unique hotels, magazines, personal travels, historical books and the environment.

What are the best ways to splurge on wedding events?

Being a good host or hostess means being at ease, so I think it’s always important to make sure that your event is well-staffed. This applies across the board, from the catering to the parking attendants to the coordination team. It’s also great to have a wonderful honeymoon to look forward to!
